Tripod Lashing

Used to join three poles together to form a tripod.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. 1

    Lay three poles parallel with the tops together

  2. 2

    Make a clove hitch on one outside pole

  3. 3

    Weave the rope over and under the poles (7-8 turns)

  4. 4

    Make 2 frapping turns between each pair of poles

  5. 5

    Finish with a clove hitch on the opposite outside pole

  6. 6

    Stand up and spread the legs to form the tripod

Pro Tips

  • Practice on smaller poles before using on large structures
  • Keep rope tension consistent throughout the lashing
  • Wet the rope slightly to make it easier to work with
  • Always finish with a secure knot that won't slip
